The truth

The truth, what is it ? Many people believe that the truth is simply a statement of what actually happened. Unfortunately nothing could be further from the (ahem) truth. I am driving at the vast array of opinion on the truth that we (the public) are fed by our governments and news organisations no matter from where you hail. NOBODY has a monopoly on the truth.

In the biking world we are very familiar with the press and others just making up stories to suit their own agenda. But we are not unique when it comes to being the recipients of unjust reporting. It applies to the average guy on the street as well as governments and national organisations, it just depends on the motives and agendas of those that are doing the reporting. Here is an example, last weekend the Russian press was reporting on an initiative proposed by their foreign minister, there was no mention of this on the news wires of either the UK or the United States until that is the following Wednesday when both the UK and US started lecturing the Russians on adopting the proposal. The Western press never did mention who made the initial proposal, did they have an interest in twisting the truth, of course they did. Now I am not supporting the Russians here as I have said before, everyone has an agenda (including the Russians). What I am saying is that before you get fixated on any particular point of view do your research. Those that pedal their point of view rely on your laziness (in research) to have their twisted version of the truth to be disseminated around the community.

So how do you do this research and how do you find the truth. Let me take those items in reverse order. Finding the truth, you are not going to but you can get close. Which brings me to the research, its easy, firstly have an open mind, whether or not the initial story fits with your agenda and mindset. Secondly read the same story from multiple sources, thats at least 3 for each news story, take in the information and somewhere between the extremes of opinion is the truth or at least the version that you are willing to accept as the truth.

Here are a few news links.
BBC
Sky
Fox
CNN
Aljazeera
RT
TASS

Try it yourself, go to one, pick a story and follow it up on the other sites. For a cat up a tree story in the Western press you will find; "Cat stuck up tree, probably driven up there for fear of invasion from Russia, Obama and and Cameron call for regime change in the cats ownership but until then there will be a no cat food to Russia sanction. " The Russian press will report; "Cat stuck up tree, forced there by the imperialist intentions of the West. Russia warns Obama and Cameron that mother Russia will defend the owners right to allow their cat up a tree and for the cat to stay there, they will also call for a vote in the security council condemning the unwarranted cat food sanctions." Oh well.

And don't forget the above applies to what people tell you as well.

Have fun.

You cant do right for doing wrong

Recent incidents related to bikers/clubs have once again seen an upwelling of opinionated comment from the usual quarters. I of course refer to the incident in Waco, Tx. I don't know what happened and I don't want to know either, thats the business of those involved. As we all know though, if the media doesn't have a full story they either embellish what they have or just plain make it up. What does concern me greatly about this is certain TV stations wheeling out their so called "expert" who has the "inside information" on bike clubs. And of what does his pearls of wisdom inform us ? Absolutely nothing of any substance. According to the guy I heard, in the USA a bottom rocker refers to territory claimed by that club, doh, its written on the freaking rocker for gods sake. In Europe though the bottom rocker refers to a district controlled by the club for the purpose of drug distribution, what a load of old nonsense! Where on Earth do they dig these characters up from.

We are further informed from an article on the Sky news website quoting a police officer as saying that many of these patch wearing bikers can be very pleasant but beware, they are only being pleasant for their own ends, what!! Its no wonder clubs don't give out a lot of information on what they are up to as it WILL be misconstrued and used as a blunt object to hit bikers with. Damned if you say something, damned if you don't. I know for a fact of many clubs, some that I am associated with and some that I am not, who have done charitable works and tried their best not to claim credit over the matter. You can see why.

I have little doubt that the so called great and good would view my post here as little more than propaganda, well propaganda normally has an objective. Sorry but I don't have an agenda, I really don't. You came to this website and read this comment under your own steam with no prompting from me or my club. In the future take some time and think about what the medias so called experts are saying, what their background is or is said to be, what their corroboration for their credentials are and what may be the purpose behind their comments. And remember its the bikers today, when they are gone who do you think they will start on, because they will, maybe you. The words of Pastor Martin Niemoller are probably pretty apt even though you may not be religious or even agree with some of his sentiments.

Nope, I am not going to write Niemoller's words down here, look him up and you will find it, don't be lazy, I may be trying to influence you!

Riding Season !

Well its that time of year again. People are dusting off motorcycles that they haven't touched for 6 months and guess what they are throwing them up the road like its going out of fashion. Why on earth do people feel the need to put their bikes away for winter. It doesn't do their riding ability any good at all in fact it reduces their ability significantly. But I guess its all about image or so they believe. Why not spend some time looking totally uncool in the winter wearing all sorts of clothing in an attempt to keep hypothermia at bay, it will improve your riding and you may just enjoy it.
